What Chemical Peels Can Do For Your Skin

Has time and sun exposure changed your facial appearance? Do you want a safe and effective way to rejuvenate your skin? At A E Skin Professional and Medical Spa in Encino, CA, Dr. Alex and his staff provide innovative medical and esthetic treatments which improve the health and appearance of your skin. Learn more here about one of today's most popular aesthetic skin services offered at our med spa: the chemical peel.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is an in-office aesthetic service which improves the texture and color of facial skin. Obviating mild acne scarring and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, a chemical peel involves no pain or downtime.

After a detailed skin evaluation and discussion of your goals, Dr. Alex may recommend a particular type of chemical peel--superficial, medium or deep. Each kind applies a specific acidic preparation to the face and targets flaws of varying degrees. Additionally, each kind imposes different recovery times and after care. All in all, any chemical peel produces amazing results with relative ease and convenience.

The general procedure

Your chemical peel happens entirely at your med spa in Encino, CA. Dr. Alex or one of his highly skilled estheticians will prepare your face with a mild numbing agent, take a few digital photos for before and after comparison and then apply the chemical peel preparation.

This takes just a few minutes. You'll sit in front of cooling air from a nearby fan, and then, your esthetician will add sunscreen to your face. This completes the procedure. All in all, it takes under an hour.

After your chemical peel

You can go home or back to work and resume your normal routine. Just avoid bright sun, alcohol, and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours. The American Society of Dermatologic Surgery highly recommends abstaining from smoking at this time, too. Continue to apply sunscreen during the day and moisturizer at night for at least a week.

You'll notice some results in a few days and optimal changes within several days to a week's time. During this time, your skin may or may not peel, but whatever the case, refrain from:

  • Vigorous scrubbing with a washcloth (use your fingertips to cleanse your face)
  • Direct water from your shower head
  • Itching, rubbing or picking at any peeling skin

With good care, you'll notice a wonderfully smooth glow to your face. Your doctor will tell you how many follow-up treatments you'll need to keep your great look.
